As a well-known higher education, IPB is determined to support the SDGs through innovation and research. IPB has put SDGs as its global agenda while developing its university’s research agenda in various sectors. IPB has successfully produced Strategic Research Agenda in Food, Energy, Poverty, Ecology and Biomedicine that requires the transdisciplinary approaches.
In order to synergize the stakeholder engagement archives, IPB has accepted the role to manage IPB-SDGs Network coordinated by Dr. Bayu Krisnamurti (Letter Number: 18080/IT3/KP/2018) coordinated with the objectives as followed:
- To prepare organizational structure of IPB-SDGs Network in coordination with Institute of Research & Community Services
- To develop programs & activities related to SDGs

Establishment of research consortia related to SDGs has become a strategic effort to address a wide range of the goals, such as:
- CRC990 – EFFoRTS with the emphasis on ecology and socio-economy and funded by DFG (German Research Foundation) – SDG No. 15
- REDD+ with the emphasis on Reducing Emission from Deforestation & Forest Degradation funded by DANIDA – SDG No. 13
- Zoonoses with the emphasis on health & biomedicine funded by JST/SATREPS and JICA – SDG No. 3
- Australia Indonesia Center (AIC) with the emphasis on food/agriculture & infrastructure funded by AIC and the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education of Indonesia – SDG No. 6
- EMBRIO with the emphasis on Marine Biodiversity funded by IPB and the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education of Indonesia – SDG No. 14
- LISAT with the emphasis on remote sensing/satellite for food security and environmental monitoring funded by LAPAN, IPB and the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education of Indonesia – SDG No 2
- PETUAH with the emphasis on green knowledge management, funded by MCA-I – SDG No. 17
- Peat Fire with the emphasis on environment & climate change funded by NASA – SDG No. 13
- Agri_Insurance with the emphasis on food security funded by JST/SATREPS and JICA – SDG No. 9

The inauguration of CTSS was held at IPB International Convention Center (IICC) by the Chancellor of IPB, Dr. Arif Satria. Dr. Satria stated that CTSS is a new study center at IPB which is expected to be able to construct new thoughts and current ideas related to sustainability sciences.
CTSS occupies a unique niche amid the rapid development of science and technology, which has a large impact on human civilization, and the sustainability of life. Therefore, CTSS is expected to contribute to the emergence of new knowledge that involves transdisciplinary local knowledge and modern science.
