IPB University provides access to those not studying at the university educational resources, including IPB free access journals and public lectures through youtube and other links for various knowledge products under the IPB repository. IPB also provides some online courses in 2020 that lecturers and departments provide that the public can access. IPB University has more than 80 journals managed by its departments and faculties, and four of them are indexed by the reputable database Scopus. All these journals are open-access.

Public events (lifelong learning)

IPB University 2020 hosted many events in 2020, such as seminars, public lectures and conferences and they were mainly done offline that year. Many of those events were attended by many participants, not only from IPB university but also from other universities or institutions and communities. Some events are on a programmed basis, such as Strategic Talks organized by the Directorate of Scientific Publication and Strategic Information that discuss topics related to public policy on agriculture, marine and biosciences; IPB Talks organized by the Directorate of International Program that discusses updated research topics and transdisciplinary sciences. Faculties/departments also conduct ad-hoc educational events in the form of webinars or guest lectures, for example, the Department of Physics organizes a public lecture on Biomedical Optics with Dr Ing Azhar Zam.

Vocational training events (lifelong learning)

IPB University, through IPB Training, conducts several events and professional training to develop HR skills based on applied life science. IPB Training delivers value through regular training service and particular training according to customer needs (in-house training). In addition, IPB University, through the research centre, also organizes training or events that are open to the general public, such as technical guidance training (Bimtek) of Quality Assurance (SPMI) and Internal Quality Audit (AMI). Bimtek to improve the understanding and skills of managers of Village-Owned Enterprises (Bumdes).

Education outreach activities beyond campus

Regularly, IPB University organised a community services program involving students every year in the “Kuliah Kerja Nyata Tematik (KKNT)” (Thematic community learning services) program. In 2020, IPB organised KKNT with 3072 students participating in community services for 40 days in 196 Districts. IPB also has a program called edelweiss (Education Weeks in School), a voluntary student-run scheme in the local school, which aims to implement a community service program in the local school surrounding the campus. This activity seeks to increase the awareness of rural communities about the importance of education. IPB University also undertakes educational outreach activities for teachers in applied biology.

Lifelong learning access policy

IPB is mandated to conduct community services through various activities and is committed to open access to these services to all people. Such a commitment is written in the Rector Decree no133/IT3/LK/2020, page 2 point c. Academic Senate Regulation Number 36/IT3.SA/P/2020 specified Strategic Principles and Policies for Research and Service to Society. In that point, 1(c) states that these activities should create Social, economic and ecological benefits (among others: not create conflict, create prosperity, support sustainable production and consumption activities, etc.) This commitment has long been practised through community service education (KKN-T) which reaches the whole areas of Indonesia, including disadvantaged, outermost and remote areas, such as KKN in Desa Betok Jaya Village, a remote village in Kalimantan (Ev.3).
